In order to be considered for training course sponsorship the established process is as follows:
First a client must be registered. If he/she is deemed to be eligible for training, then he/she must go through a further process where he/she is required to investigate and research various aspects for the intended area of training and subsequent occupational and employment opportunities research.
The registration process requires the submission of the following:
a)Up to date resume
b)Photocopy of both sides of status card
c)Completed & signed Client Data Sheet
d)Completed & signed Consent to Release of Information form.
NOTE:
i)
An application must be approved by Gezhtoojig before you start training.
ii)
Completion of the Research Kit does not guarantee any approval for the financial support for training.
iii)
Individuals currently in receipt of Ontario Works are expected to approach their Ontario Works Caseworker to request authorization to continue their Ontario Works assistance while they attend training.
iv)
Individuals recently laid off must apply for Employment Insurance to establish a claim.
v)
Individuals must provide Gezhtoojig with any new telephone numbers & mailing addresses.
Informational Interview
To ensure that clients are aware of the working environment as well as the costs and benefits of a particular job, clients are required to conduct occupational research into the specific occupation they are interested in. This research is done through the library and/or Internet research (www.jobfutures.ca) (www.jobbank.gc.ca). They must conduct at least one (1) Informational Interview with an individual working in the employment field (see page 3 of Research Kit).
Training Course Research
Clients are required to investigate three (3) Training Facilities to compare and decide which training site provides the better training options for their needs (see page 4 - 9 of Research Kit). They must obtain an acceptance letter from the training facility they would like to attend and it must outline the start and end date of the program, cost for tuition, books, or any other costs associated with the course.
We require at least 2 - 3 job postings in the area that the client wishes to be trained in and that they would qualify for once they graduate from their intended program. These could be obtained from newspaper classified advertisements and/or HRSDC Job Bank. A letter from an employer that will consider the client for employment upon completion of training is a definite asset.
4.
LETTER FROM CLIENT REQUESTING TRAINING
The client must submit a letter to Gezhtoojig Employment & Training outlining their request. This letter must include all course information and what they will require in order to complete the course (ex. living allowance, transportation, etc.).
5.
EMPLOYMENT COUNSELLOR ASSESSMENT
Once the research process is completed a discussion needs to occur between the Gezhtoojig Employment Counsellor and client. Please contact Gezhtoojig Employment & Training at (705) 524-6772 or 1-800-361-9256 to schedule an interview with a Counsellor. The Counsellor will assess and recommend the client training request for funding.
6.
EXIT INTERVIEW & FOLLOW-UP
At least one week prior to completion of the training the client is given the Exit Interview. This questionnaire must be completed and handed in upon completion of the course along with copies of transcripts, certificates, diploma or any other pertinent information or results regarding the training course for case management purposes. A follow-up telephone call will be made to the client in approximately 12 weeks to verify if the client has entered the workforce. If you obtain employment upon completion of the course please notify the office.
If you wish to discuss your request further, or if you require clarification on the research requirements contact Gezhtoojig Employment & Training.
